Hatefuck by Rehana Lew Mirza

This show is like Sex with Strangers with Islam. There are issues with media popularity versus value, there is a stalker-ish obsession of the one character with the other's work, there are lot of scenes that end with sex about to be had, plus this one has an actual sex scene and far more graphic and foul language. Additionally, neither of the characters in this play is remotely likable. I love a bit witty banter, but even Beatrice and Benedict couldn't carry a whole play with it. Clever put-downs only get you so far. The incessant bickering in this play never really gathers the gravity it seems to want because the characters are so opposite-minded (and unsympathetic). There is never any convergence on anything but sex, and, since the audience does not get any gratification from that, I do not see why they would want to endure the endless arguing.
