I and You by Lauren Gunderson

I actually rather enjoyed this sweet little teen romance (even with the not-so-subtle educational theme, Yay, Walt Whitman!), until it tried to become something deeper. Spoiler alert: the boy is dead and the girl is dreaming/hallucinating while receiving his liver. Maybe it is my utter lack of spirituality, but this ending just irked me. It is the trite ending of β€œand then she woke up,” attempting to impose existential import on an otherwise well-executed romantic dramedy in the vein of Me and Earl and the Dying Girl.
